Accreditation Council in Imaging (ACI):

The ACI is the accreditation body of the European Board of Radiology (EBR). It assists and supports the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME) – the accreditation body of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) – in delivering and harmonising the highest level of European Continuing Medical Education credits (ECMECs) in imaging.

European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME):

The UEMS-EACCME® is an institution of the UEMS which formally represents European countries. Its credits are recognised by National Accreditation Authorities in Europe. European Accreditation means the decision by UEMS-EACCME® that a CME activity, event, programme or e-learning material has fulfilled the UEMS-EACCME® quality requirements. A CME activity or e-learning material will be accredited by UEMS-EACCME® if it has high-quality scientific content, if it is free of commercial bias and has an appropriate educational approach.

European Board of Radiology (EBR):

The EBR is an apolitical, physician-led organisation dedicated to researching, developing and implementing certification and accreditation activities and programmes. These include examinations and other forms of certification for general and sub-specialised physicians. In addition, it is involved in monitoring and harmonising qualification and training standards in the field of radiology and imaging diagnosis.

European Union of Medical Specialists (Union Européenne des Médecins Spécialistes – UEMS):

It is a non-governmental organisation representing national associations of medical specialists in the European Union and in associated countries.

E-learning material:

E-learning is learning by utilising electronic technologies to access educational content at a time convenient to a learner. In most cases, it refers to a course or programme delivered completely online.

Live educational event (LEE):

A meeting/event whose primary purpose is to provide medical educational material to medical specialists, for their educational benefit. It requires participants to be present at the event’s site or online at the time the event takes place. Each form of presence/participation requires thorough organisation and a reliable system allowing confirmation of participation. It is expected that, as a result of this educational process, patients also will benefit from the lessons, applied in practice, that their specialist doctors have learned. By extension, live webinars are considered LEEs. A webinar is a live online educational presentation during which viewers can confirm attendance and can submit questions and answers. The recording of a live educational event made available online after the event has taken place is not considered a LEE. The recording however may be considered an e-learning material if it complies with the criteria for the accreditation of e-learning materials.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD):

Continuing Professional Development for physicians designates all the professional development activities that occur after specialist qualification has been obtained. It includes many forms of education and training that allow doctors to maintain and improve their standards of medical practice by enhancing their knowledge, skills, and professional conduct.
The EACCME® recognises the following CPD activities:
– Reviewing scientific and educational material (REV)
– Publishing scientific and educational material (PUB)
– Learning by Teaching (LbT)
– Examiner in a UEMS exam
